Artist Statement
This body of work explores the evolving nature of my personal narrative. It marks a significant progression in my artistic journey where I am deepening my exploration of drawing and reflecting on the development of my skills and my individual life experiences. For these pieces I work in graphite on cold pressed watercolour paper; I have spent years working in monochrome and developing my knowledge and skills it only feels right to have each piece completed in the same way. Included in the work are images I have created over the span of the last four years, sometimes from outsourced images for reference, that are close to me and depict personal experiences and stories. The work is influenced by my interest in animals, nature and human connection, as well as pieces of my childhood and the landscape I grew up on.
At the heart of this work is an exploration of my life and the way I have developed my art practice over time. These pieces are imbued with layers of sentiment and I draw from a reservoir of memories, experiences and images that hold personal significance. The works are linked to my childhood, relationships with others and myself, and showcase my skill development as well as the current work I am completing.
