Artist Statement
Since I first got into filmmaking early last year, I have been interested in, and experimented with a range of different styles and film genres. Recently I have made films relating how humans interact with nature, both through a slightly humorous short drama (“White Rabbits”) and a more abstract short dance film (“Rhythmic Polarity”).
White Rabbits: After disrespecting nature while on a camping trip, four friends must meet the consequences of their actions.
I wanted to make a film in the summer holidays that could be filmed locally and that discussed an important issue, while also being a bit comical, and silly at times. So, after brainstorming ideas with my friends, and getting their help to write and act in the film, we camped in the bush for a couple of days and shot it.
Rhythmic Polarity: An exploration of the clash between natural and industrial worlds, through choreography, score and cinematic techniques.
I wanted to make an abstract dance film about the disconnection between natural and industrial words and today’s society. So, with the help of my friends at FLING Physical Theatre, I experimented with dance scores, choreography and filming techniques, to bring my idea to life.
