Evangeline Martin

Arts Mid North Coast

Evangeline Martin is performer and director based in Port Macquarie. She has been involved in drama classes since she was 7 and began participating in musicals from age 12. Some performance highlights in her career so far have been playing Belle in Beauty and the Beast Jr, The Nurse in The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet, The Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr, Dogberry in Much ado About Nothing, Scuttle in the Little Mermaid Jr as well as other roles including ensemble.

While performance has been a main focus for Evangeline, she also enjoys behind the scenes work. At age 11 she co-wrote a modern adaptation of Cinderella with a peer and teacher with the show being staged in a local hall. Through her experience as a performer, she also recently discovered that she has a passion for directing.

Thanks to the help of Got Ya Back Productions, she has now directed three kid’s plays and musicals with the Music Man Jr currently in the works. Evangeline has also directed and production managed a season of Alice In Wonderland at a local theatre with the cast of four young adults ages eighteen to twenty. These performance and directorial skills as well as some foundational skills in lighting, audio, vision and stage crew have allowed her to enjoy exploring many creative options for the future and she hopes to keep broadening her horizons in all aspects of the theatre industry.

Artist Statement

For my creative work I have chosen to expand my audition repertoire in preparation for university applications and future auditions for both play and musical roles. This process included me searching for audition material that is suitable for the requirements of various drama universities across the country and also spoke to me as a performer. I settled on a range of pieces that both showcase my growing skills and also my love for characterisation and play within a script or song. I have also been working on my dance skills to work towards the title of ‘triple threat’ as this is a discipline which, previous to this year, I did not have a great deal of experience or confidence in. The videos of my audition pieces I have chosen to showcase are an excellent representation of me at this time in my life and my Horizons journey. All of the pieces are ongoing works as I seek feedback from peers and mentors and experiment in audition rooms with what resonates with different panels in order to shape them to best reflect my performance skills. I have attended a few auditions as a result of these videos and I can’t wait to continue working on them and new pieces and gaining confidence in my performance to hopefully end up in a uni degree and a life in the performing arts.
