Sara Wilson

Eastern Riverina Arts

Sara is an emerging visual artist based on Wiradjuri land in Wagga Wagga. Working across mediums including digital illustration, block printing and graphic design, Sara creates character-driven artworks inspired by her love of storytelling.

Sara has long been fascinated by the way people are represented through design and how artists and authors can weave elaborate stories through images. Sara has collaborated on a variety of projects, and in particular enjoys the challenge of capturing the essence of a story when designing posters for local theatre productions. When she’s not creating character illustrations on her iPad, Sara can be found immersed in a book, always on the lookout for new characters and stories to inspire her next creation.

Sara holds a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Visual Arts & Design) from Charles Sturt University and has also commenced a Master of Teaching (Secondary) in Visual Arts.

Artist Statement

2024 has seen my artist practice explode into reality, largely in thanks to opportunities presented by the Horizons Career Launchpad. I have been lucky enough to engage in several creative projects including working with the Powerhouse Museum on a series of digital illustration workshops, collaborating with Wagga Council and Heaps Decent. In the interim, I have begun work on illustrating a children’s picture book with the goal of applying for publication in 2025.

Many of my illustrations have a focus on people or storytelling, which are two of my favourite subjects to explore! Each of these projects allowed me to grow my illustration skills and build a network of creatives in my local area and beyond!

The collection of illustrations you see here are from 2023-2024.
