Artist Statement
In this video I am performing Jules Demersseman’s ‘Fantaisie sur un theme original’ on the alto saxophone. Written only 20 years after the saxophone’s invention, it is widely considered to be the first time a work that captured the enormous potential of the saxophone; utilising virtuosic passages, lyrical melodies and technical difficulty.
