Collaborate to create
Film
In 2024, a group of young film makers from across regional NSW participated in the Horizons mentorship program. They received tailored industry advice and guidance from their mentor, while also building lasting relationships and professional networks with one another.
About the Film Group
This film captures the insights and experience gained by the Horizons participants mentored in the film industry by seasoned producer Hiromi Matsuoka.
In the lead-up to their meetup, participants from our film group collaborated on creating a short film from scratch, set in an office environment. With support from Regional Arts NSW, who generously provided access to their space over the weekend, the group developed a script in advance and completed all filming in a single day. Guided by their mentor Hiromi and regional filmmaker Henry Simmons from Bathurst and the Arts Out West region, the participants gained valuable insights into the filmmaking process and heard first-hand about Henry’s career journey.
Throughout the day, the group reviewed the script, blocked scenes, and planned shots while learning to adapt quickly and solve problems on set. Each participant rotated through various roles in the production process, gaining hands-on experience and understanding the importance of teamwork in filmmaking. By the end of the day, they had successfully captured all the footage needed to assemble their short film.
