Diya Bhengra

Eastern Riverina Arts

Diya has been immersed in music from a young age, beginning with classical piano lessons that laid the foundation for her artistic journey. Her passion for songwriting emerged as she gained confidence through classical vocal training and self-taught guitar skills, opening doors to new creative exploration. Diya’s influences span a wide range, from mainstream pop artists like Olivia Rodrigo to the introspective sounds of neo-soul artists like Frank Ocean. While she draws inspiration from R&B and hip hop, her own music leans toward a pop-indie style that continues to evolve with each song she writes.
Diya’s work often explores themes surrounding the dynamics within relationships and her personal reflections on the world around her. She strives to create music that resonates with listeners, offering them a voice for emotions they may find difficult to express on their own.

Lyrics

Verse 1
Knew you’d try, from the time you flashed I smiled I knew I’d cave
late at night, try to fight myself while my heart runs away.
All tied up in memories, it’s been so long
so please don’t leave without a kiss, not one, not two but three.

Pre Chorus 1
We’re here once more, we’d closed that door, you’re not so sure.
Why can’t you see?
Now you’re here that you’re the one I need
That I need like lala lala

Verse 2
I can’t lie, that I’d hide if I’d have known you’d be this way
Out of sight, out of mind, but you’re the feeling I can’t shake
I wear my heart on my sleeve, makes this so hard
So baby please forget about the rules and come with me

Pre Chorus 2
Been here before, we’d closed that door, want something more
Why can’t you see?
Now you’re here that you’re the one I need
That I need like lala lala

Bridge
Times have changed, but you’re the same and I don’t know
Why my brain can’t understand that…

Close
All I grown up I’ll have to leave
And please just don’t come after me.
Cuz now you’re here you’re all that I can see.
Don’t wanna do this again
I think we’re better off as friends
It’s best for both of us don’t you agree?
But I’ll stay here and wish it secretly

Artist Statement

I believe art often begins with a spark of emotion tied to a thought, experience, or person—an easy way to find inspiration. But as a songwriter, I’ve been exploring a different path: empathetic and imaginative writing. Using my creativity to tell a fictional story that others might relate to has become a rewarding challenge. This song reflects that approach. It’s about revisiting an old friendship—one strained by time and distance, until a chance reunion reveals a new dynamic. Now, romantic feelings are in play, at least from the narrator’s perspective. The song captures the push and pull of a complex relationship and unresolved longing.

I chose plain vocals and guitar to let the storytelling take center stage, giving the song an effortless, ‘girl-in-bedroom’ vibe. Ultimately, it’s an open letter, inviting listeners to explore their own emotions along with the music.
