Kasey Tudor

Arts Upper Hunter

Kasey Tudor is an emerging artist based in the Hunter Valley of NSW Australia, primarily working in the field of birdlife as well as other animal drawings. Birds are a major source of inspiration that Kasey has been focusing on, working mostly with graphite on paper. Australian native birds are of particular focus during the past two years. Kasey has recently taken opportunities to experiment with new techniques such as engraving on glass as well as drawing on a larger scale.

Kasey has been making art since she was young and is self-taught in addition to art education at high school. Kasey’s exploration into new medium and techniques and expanded subject matter will enrich her art making and next year there are plans to begin a degree in Visual Communication Design majoring in Graphic Design, which Kasey feels is the next big step in a professional arts practice.

Artist Statement

I am an artist exploring the elegant lines of nature and wildlife. I take a specific interest in birdlife, using graphite pencil and glass engraving to capture their ever-changing movement. I take particular interest in these two mediums because I can create fine lines and shading to build up a final work. Australia is believed to be the birthplace of songbirds and with its wide variety of species, I am never short of creative inspiration.

I am currently working on small-scale sketchbook studies in preparation for a larger work, and will take this as an opportunity to experiment with colour, different mediums and subject matter. I am inspired by the artist John Woolsey who started his career creating scientific artworks and has evolved into using lines to create images inspired by nature. I would like to explore the way that different countries express their birdlife in art in the future. I hope that this will allow me to evolve my own style as I become a more established artist who will be learning about art styles and processes from around the world.
